Six Major Hazards of Plastic Pollution

August 19, 2025

tin tức mới nhất của công ty về Six Major Hazards of Plastic Pollution

While plastics offer convenience, their widespread use causes severe environmental problems. Here are the primary hazards:

Land Pollution: Plastic waste is difficult to degrade in soil. Long-term accumulation harms soil quality and hinders plant growth.

Water Pollution: Plastic waste pollutes rivers, lakes, and oceans, threatening aquatic plants and animals.

Air Pollution: Burning plastics releases toxic fumes, including dioxins, significantly damaging air quality.

Damage to Biodiversity: Marine organisms die from ingesting plastics or becoming entangled in it. Microplastics infiltrate deep into the marine food chain. Soil and freshwater ecosystems are also severely impacted.

Human Health Risks: Microplastics and associated chemicals can accumulate through the food chain, posing threats like endocrine disruption and reproductive system damage. Toxins from burning plastic waste (e.g., polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, heavy metals) further endanger human health.

Resource and Energy Waste: Plastic manufacturing consumes vast amounts of fossil resources (e.g., petroleum). The short lifespan and disposable use mode of plastic products lead to significant resource waste. Improper disposal (e.g., open-air burning) wastes resources and increases greenhouse gas emissions, exacerbating global warming.

Other Significant Hazards:

Release of toxic gases (e.g., vinyl chloride monomer) during production, which are carcinogenic.

Plastic waste takes centuries to decompose in nature, occupying valuable land resources.

Incineration of plastic waste poses fire hazards.

Poor-quality plastics can cause bodily damage (e.g., gastrointestinal irritation, respiratory mucosal irritation).

The entire lifecycle (manufacture and use) consumes enormous petroleum resources, natural gas resources, water resources, electricity, heat energy, and chemical resources.

While plastics offer benefits, their adverse effects are undeniable. We can mitigate plastic pollution by using cloth bags, paper bags, reducing disposable tableware use, and strengthening recycling management of plastic products.
